More of, Less of

Blue ocean and rocks.

Every year, between Christmas and New Year’s Day, you can find me snacking on leftovers, checking the calendar daily (because I seem to always wake up believing it’s Sunday), reflecting on the past 365 days and those that lay ahead – and contemplating this quote (which, to be fair, I think about almost weekly anyway):

“I’m beginning to recognise that real happiness isn’t something large and looming on the horizon ahead,
but something small, numerous and already here.
The smile of someone you love.
A decent breakfast.
The warm sunset.
Your little everyday joys all lined up in a row.”
– Beau Taplin

During this down time (when I’m wondering through the world asking everyone what day of the week it is) I like to take stock of everything I’m grateful for and sit down to draw up a list. A list of what I’d like to do more and less of in the coming year.

For me that’s more listening, (always) more gratitude, more travel, more intentionality and more hand-written thank-you notes.
Less screen-time, less plastic, less worrying about things I can’t control, less complaining and less holes in my socks (seriously. It’s a problem.).

What do you want to do in 2020?

Whether you set resolutions, decide on a word that’ll drive your year, or write lists (like I do) of how you hope to align your focus I hope you have a great start to the decade and that you remember to line up the little everyday joys, and celebrate them.
